Natur Cymru
Inspired by Nature
The challenge
The challenge is to write a thousand word article on a subject
of topical environmental or wildlife interest in Wales which
inspires you. Articles can be submitted in Welsh or English and
will be judged by a panel which will be looking for:
- Originality of content
- Use of plain language (Welsh or English)
- Balanced presentation of argument
- The degree to which the article engages with the reader and
captures the imagination
In writing the article entrants should be targeting an audience
that is interested in wildlife and the environment but not
necessarily an expert. Appropriate illustrations are welcome, but
not essential.
The prize
The winner will receive an award of £500 donated and presented
by WWF plus an impressive entry for the CV!
The first four runners up will receive a one year subscription
to Natur Cymru for themselves or someone they nominate.
Eligibility and entry
The competition is intended to stimulate debate and encourage
contributions from students at universities in Wales. It is aimed
primarily at those studying environmental subjects but open to all
students irrespective of the subject being studied.
The competition is open to all 2008 / 2009 students,
undergraduate or postgraduate, of the universities in Wales.
Articles along with illustrations are to be submitted to
info@naturcymru.org.uk by 12th January 2009.
In addition you should provide your full contact details
including the name and the head of the department in which you are
studying.
All entries will be sent an acknowledgment email within one
week. If you do not receive an acknowledgment email you should
contact Huw Jenkins on 01766 541062.
Results
The winning article will be announced and published bilingually
in the Spring edition of Natur Cymru. A date and place for the
presentation of the prize will be agreed in discussion with the
winner and the sponsor, WWF.
Publicity
By entering the competition the winner agrees to participate in
such promotional activity and material as Natur Cymru may require
including the publication of the article in Natur Cymru.
